Green tea does more good health, if you drink it with sugar and lemon.

Adding ascorbic acid and sugar in green tea helps the body absorb the beneficial compounds in the drink, the scientists of Purdue University / USA have discovered.

Experts have determined that ascorbic acid increases the absorbability of catechines in tea – a class of polyphenols that have antioxidant properties and are struggling with heart disease, cancer, diabetes, lowering the risk of stroke and other health problems. Catechine is also found in cocoa and grapes. Adding ascorbic acid and sucrose in green tea three times increases the absorption of beneficial catechines in the blood. The researchers recommend adding lemon juice in green tea or choose other beverages containing a large quantity of vitamin C.

Laboratory tests were designed to monitor the solubility, absorption and digestive stability of polyphenols. Dr. Mario Ferucci adapted digestive model with intestinal cells of the human body – this new model can more effectively predict how the formula of product will act. According to Dr. Ferucci, the new model would also reduce the use of animals in scientific testing. In the future, doctors plan to conduct clinical trials of green tea in combination with sugar and ascorbic acid in humans.
